Excellent shade match for all-zirconia – available for open and Lava milling systems
Lava™ Plus High Translucency Zirconia system offers all-zirconia restorations that exhibit accurate and true colors without compromising strength or translucency. It utilizes a unique zirconia powder and shading liquids specially engineered for that material. Now this complete system is available in both a disc and a frame.
3M’s patented color ion shading technology delivers consistent color. Developed specifically for a consistent color match to VITA Classical shades, Lava Plus High Translucency Zirconia Dyeing liquids are available in each VITA Classical shade plus two bleach shades. For popular VITA 3D-Master® shades, 3M ESPE provides a conversion chart to ensure you can deliver an accurate match for your dentist. Your high strength, translucent restorations will have a warm and natural esthetic appearance because the shading liquid is completely absorbed and provides coloration throughout the restoration. Our special chemistry enables our material to maintain its translucency even after shading.
Restorations can either be monolithic full contour or with a partial or full veneer.

In order for Lava™ Plus Zirconia to obtain its desired optical properties it must allow light to pass with a minimal amount of scattering. Scattering occurs when light strikes structural defects inside the sintered Zirconia. The high quality processing of Lava™ Zirconia minimizes these effects.
Lava™ Plus Zirconia will sinter to a highly dense polycrystalline microstructure with an average grain size of below 0.5µm. (PDF, 961 KB)
This same microstructure that gives Lava Plus Zirconia its high translucency is also responsible for its high strength and fracture toughness which is a measurement of a material's ability to resist fracture.

The average grain size of less than 0.5 µm and the material properties found in Lava Plus Zirconia yields a surface that is also kind to opposing dentition.
The same unique blend of raw materials that contributes to the Lava Plus Zirconia's excellent translucency, strength and aging stability enables the use of a Speed Sintering Cycle. This high throughput sintering schedule allows for a sintering time of 160min., without compromising strength or translucency. This allows for up to three batches a day.
The Lava™ Plus High Translucency Zirconia System includes a tailored shading system for full color control.
3M Dental makes its system for high translucency zirconia available for open-source milling. The 98mm discs are shaded with patented dyeing liquids matched to the VITA classical shade guide. The system also includes enamel liquids and special effect shades for all-zirconia restorations.
