3M Perfect-it™ Colour Coded Polishing System

  • Use the 3M Perfect-it™ Colour Coded Polishing System to obtain a high gloss, defect free surface. The products are designed to compliment each other and the colour coding assures that you use the right compound with it's fitting foam to achieve the best results.
Note: The compounds recommended in this polishing process are for professional use for newly applied clear coats. For already aged / weathered surfaces, products from the 3M Car Care range are better suited.

Compounding

  • Compound
      • Apply a small amount of 3M™ Perfect-it™ III Fast Cut Plus Compound (PN50417) to corresponding colour coded green foam, place pad onto panel and start up rotary polisher.
      • For larger areas or elevated temperatures, use 3M™ Perfect-it™ III Fast Cut XL Compound (PN51052) for longer open time.
      • Ideal RPM range: 800 - 1200 RPM - for ca. 2 x 10 secs depending on curing status / hardness of the clear coat.

For best results: Place the machine flat onto the surface, only use light pressure and reduce the pressure again towards the end

  • Control Step: Use 3M™ Finish Control Spray (PN55535) to remove all compound residue and check that scratches have been removed sufficiently. If need be, repeat the compounding step to avoid any "come-back" of scratches at a later stage.

Polishing

      • Attach 3M™ High Gloss Polishing Pad (yellow) to rotary polisher (speed: 1.200 - 1.800 RPM) and apply 3M™ Perfect-it™ III Extra Fine Compound to the pad.
      • Place pad flat onto panel, start machine and move across panel until high shine is achieved - time ca. 20 secs, depending on hardness of the clear coat. Increase the RPM towards the end of the polishing process.

Finish - particularly needed for dark colours

      • To achieve the best results and remove swirls and holograms particularly on dark colours, a final step using 3M™ Perfect-it™ Ultrafina™ SE is recommended.
      • Change to the 3M™ Perfect-it™ Ultrafina™ high gloss polishing pad (blue), apply compound onto the pad, assuring that the pad is covered with compound.

Note: Using this process too dry will not give you swirl-free results! Don't apply any pressure - just run the pad over the surface, covering generously the whole area.

To clean off the whole area, wipe with 3M™ Perfect-It™ Ultra Soft Cloth, Blue.
