    Coat tab area in 3M™ Polyolefin Adhesion Promoter 05917 and leave to dry for 10 minutes.

Tab repair - Tab rebuild

  • Be it to fix a light or a bumper, a tab is easily broken, but just as easily, it can be reliably repaired and rebuilt by using 3Ms Plastic Tab Rebuild Process.

    Using our fast cure Superfast Adhesive allows you to repair the part instead of having to replace it, allowing you to speed up your process and save money at the same time.

Step by step guide for Plastic Tab Rebuilding


  • Step 1 - Clean the area

    Apply 3M™ VHB™ Surface Cleaner or 3M™ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984 using 3M™ Professional Panel Wipe 34567 to clean the area. Allow to dry completely.

  • Step 3 - Increase the repair strength

    Drill several holes of 3-6 mm in diameter in the remaining part of the tab to increase the strength of the repair.

  • Step 2 - Smooth rough edges

    Use 3M Roloc™ Disc P80 to smooth rough edges of broken tab.
  • Step 4 - Apply Polyolefin Adhesion Promoter

    Coat tab area in 3M™ Polyolefin Adhesion Promoter 05917 and leave to dry for 10 minutes.
  • Step 5 - Apply Superfast Adhesive

    Step 5 - Apply Superfast Adhesive

    Cut a piece of 3M 4903 contour film about 2.5 times the size of the tab to be repaired.

    Apply 3M™ Superfast Plastic Adhesive PN55045 transparent or PN04748 black using 3M™ Applicator 08190 and use the contour sheet as support.

  • Step 6 - Form the tab

    Step 6 - Form the tab

    Immediately fold the sheet and shape adhesive with fingers. Force adhesive into the drilled holes.Do not press too hard to keep a 3 to 5 mm layer of adhesive material on both side of the tab.

    Caution: when starting to cure, adhesive becomes hot! The adhesive will set within 20-30 secs.

    Let the adhesive cool down and peel off contour sheet.

  • Step 7 - Shape the tab

    Step 7 - Shape the tab

    After 5 minutes shape tab using 3M™ Roloc™ Disc P80/P180 and create a new fixing point to restore original appearance.

  • Step 8 - Paint the tab if necessary

    If necessary, 3M™ Superfast Plastic Adhesive 55045 / 04748 can be painted using the usual paint process for plastic parts or specific bumper paint in spray.
